Sports Performance Coaching & E.F.T. at the College World Series

If you were watching the defending CWS Champions, Oregon State, beat Cal State Fullerton Saturday night on ESPN, you may have noticed a great deal of attention being paid to some of the players in the Oregon State dugout because of their “interesting” behavior. The camera caught winning pitcher Jorge Reyes (pictured below)– a freshman – tapping on his face, with his fingertips, while sitting in the dugout between innings; and that brief camera shot sparked a great deal of discussion between the announcers and the on-field analyst, who tried to explain to viewers why some of the Oregon State players were tapping on the same spots around their face, chest, and hands. The tapping became one of the focal points for the rest of the game.

clip_image002 Anyone interested in baseball, and performance, should be interested in this “unusual behavior,” as well; because whatever it was they were doing – they were doing it in the College World Series. In other words, what they were doing is part of the recipe for where they are; and where they are is Successful in their Sport. If you are interested in reaching the top of your sport, you need to get interested in what those who are already there have done, and are doing, to get there and stay there. The fact is, the technique those players were using is specifically used for enhancing sports performance; and it works. Just ask the Beavers; they won the CWS last year and they are back!

The tapping technique, which involves tapping on specific points to moderate the stress response, is called E.F.T.; which stands for the Emotional Freedom Techniques. E.F.T. was developed by Gary Craig a little over a decade ago, and has since become a primary tool of physicians, psychologists, chiropractors, and performance coaches and therapists of all disciplines, who are seeking better performance and the removal of stress and its negative effects. Stress is the underlying cause of all sports performance problems, as well as an estimated 90% of all trips to the doctor’s office. E.F.T. is often used to eliminate chronic pain, illness, allergies, and other physical symptoms by way of eliminating the underlying stress. In sports applications, E.F.T. can be used to remove performance fears and other obstacles to success, and may even speed the healing process and shorten recovery time and stints on the DL.

E.F.T. is a “secret weapon” of many professional and elite athletes. Only occasionally do you hear a professional athlete talk about his sports psychologist, or sports hypnotist, or performance coach, or any other part of the recipe he is using to gain a step on his competition, or raise his performance to the next level; but, if you’re smart, you’ll pay attention when you get a glimpse inside the “secret” world of sports performance technologies.

The achievements credited to E.F.T., and other sports improvement and energy psychology techniques, are impressive and growing. There seems to be no limit to the performance improvements possible for athletes using these techniques. Athletes have won Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals in Olympic and Pan Am games after improving their performance, or eliminating a performance fear, with E.F.T. And, as you know, baseball teams are using E.F.T. as part of their arsenal on the road to the Series. You don’t know what your competition is doing to get the edge on you; but you do know that some of the best are using E.F.T. for exactly that reason. And it seems to be working!
