What Does It Mean To “Pray Always?”

The concept of “praying always” simply means to keep your thoughts and emotions positive and fixed on the reality you most wish to experience while maintaining a sense of gratitude and love for all that is. Sounds simple, huh? Unfortunately, this is a tall order for most people; but it can be easier than you could possibly imagine – if you relax and let it be.
The key to living a happy, healthy, and successful life (no matter what “success” means to you), is to live the way you want to live – Be happy, be healthy, and always move forward toward your dreams. In order to pull this off, you’ll need to think happy, think healthy, and think about the things you want to experience in life – always (or at least as often as possible).
People pray in order to ask for, and give thanks for, the realities they wish to experience. If you spend part of your time noticing what you don’t have, what you don’t like, and what’s wrong in your world, you’re still “praying always;” but you aren’t really praying for what you want. Make no mistake; dreams come true – and nightmares are dreams, too.
To “pray always,” you must have an idea of the kind of life you want to experience. This doesn’t mean that you should seek to remove the element of surprise from your life, or that you should try to script and plan every experience. Quite the contrary; you should expect surprises – surprises are fun. But you should have a general idea about where you want to go and who you want to be.
Jennifer and I make it our intention to focus our energies on the positive things in life – being kind, being flexible and non-judgmental, living new experiences, meeting new people, making friends, and being as helpful as possible. We think and speak fondly of our dreams and the things we want to do; and, more often than not, we end up living some version of our dreams.
Since Jake started playing little league sports, I have visualized him in professional stadiums; and, this past weekend, Jennifer and I watched Jake and his team in the Georgia Dome – where the Atlanta Falcons play football. They were the third-ranked team in the state before they won 21-6 over another top-eight team. It may not seem like much; but it does to me – and he’ll be back there again, too. At the end of the game, I noticed a cameraman standing on the sidelines and pointed my camera at him as a sort of joke. He pointed his back at me; and, the last images of the game on the “Jumbotron” (the huge video screens in the stadium) were of me and Jennifer smiling and kissing in front of thousands of people in the Dome! What a fun life!
When we travel, we also enjoy staying in luxury accommodations. We’ve stayed in some pretty bad places out of necessity; but our mantra is, “We love Free and Low-cost luxury travel and accommodations!” Well, when we arrived at the Omni International hotel in Atlanta (walking distance to the Georgia Dome), we met a lovely person who also happened to be the Director of Guest Services. What a pleasant surprise for us when she upgraded us to a deluxe king-suite!
Then, after the game, we returned to our room to find a tray of gourmet, chocolate-dipped strawberries and a bottle of champagne – what a great celebration treat! The cool thing – considering the way we “pray always” for wonderful travel and lodging experiences – was that there was a card on the tray for someone else; and, when we called downstairs to let them know about the mix-up, they told us to keep and enjoy the champagne and strawberries (an $88.00 treat that we wouldn’t have ordered ourselves) compliments of the Omni International! What a fun life!
It’s not like I pray for champagne INSTEAD of praying for peace and health and happiness; but, if you must travel, there are many ways to do it – whether you can afford it or not. Ask and you will receive. Ask always and you will receive more often than not. Think positive and be grateful for every part of your experience – always – and you will gradually reshape the nature of your experience. You’ve got nothing to lose by thinking positively and dreaming big; and you might have everything to gain. Think about it; and give it a try.
If you’re thinking, “Yeah, it must be nice to have it made…” then think again. It is nice to have it made, I’m sure; but things weren’t like this until we decided to start making them like this with our thoughts, feelings, intentions, and actions. I’m aware that I’ve always created my reality now; and I’m equally aware that, earlier in life, I was pretty sloppy with my thoughts. But now that I know, I’ll never indulge in negativity. They say, “You can’t afford the luxury of a negative thought.” Well, I say, “If you can’t afford luxury, keep your thoughts positive and see what happens!” You just may be pleasantly surprised.
