Fear Of Flying: Using EFT To Overcome Flying Fears
Fear of flying is one of the most common fears in the United States. Close to 3-billion people travel by air each year and a significant number of them are afraid of some aspect of flying. If you’re afraid of flying, you are not alone. Until recently, fearful air travelers didn’t have many options for overcoming fear; they were simply forced to sedate, suppress or otherwise mask or endure their negative symptoms and reactions. Now, with EFT, there is not only help for overcoming your fear of flying, but for overcoming practically any fear you can imagine. EFT is safe, easy-to-use, non-invasive, and best of all, it’s FREE! Try using EFT to overcome your fear of flying; then, try it on everything.
The experience you feel as fear is actually a combination of hormones and neurotransmitters your body is using to direct your feelings and behaviors in order to protect you and help you survive. Those hormones, commonly called, “Stress Hormones,” are part of the stress response, or “fight-or-flight response.” These hormones are released in response to your thoughts and perceptions about an event — thoughts and perceptions that aren’t the same for everyone. In your case, the thoughts cause you to believe your safety is being threatened in some way and what you’re feeling is part of your natural survival instincts. What isn’t natural is when your thoughts cause you to feel as if you have to fight for your life when there is no real and immediate threat to your life. In these cases — which are very common these days — you simply need to change, rewrite or delete the problematic stress-thoughts that are causing you to see danger where others are not. Thoughts, beliefs and perceptions are easily changed and, in fact, change all the time based on our experiences. With EFT, changing perceptions and eliminating negative or unproductive thoughts is a relatively simple matter.
To get started, you’ll need to download one of the many Free EFT manuals available online. (I have posted a Free, Illustrated Guide to EFT at: www.ExploreExpandEvolve.com/free_download ) Once you’ve read about the EFT process and technique, you’re ready to begin. Simply apply EFT to any problem or fear and you will find that you have more power and control over your life than ever before. You will no longer be crippled by fears that keep you from going places and doing the things you love to do or have always wanted to do. Help yourself to EFT; and then help set yourself free with EFT.
When using EFT, simply insert a problematic belief (such as, “I’m afraid of flying…”) into the EFT basic set-up phrase: “Even though ________, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.” Before starting, rate your level of distress over this belief on a scale of 1-10 and write that number down. After completing a round of EFT, reassess your level of distress and compare it to the original number. You will most likely find that your level of distress has either dropped significantly, or disappeared completely. If there is no change, consider changing the statement by reflecting on the exact wording that causes you the greatest distress.
Below, I’ve compiled a short list of some of the more common beliefs associated with a fear of flying. If you use EFT to eliminate one of them, but still find you have some or all of your fear remaining, you can simply move on to another one. These aren’t in order. There’s a chance that, while using EFT on one of these fears, you will gain clarity on what you are really afraid of. For example, I’ve had clients using EFT with the statement, “Even though I’m afraid of flying…,” who stopped and told me, “It isn’t flying that I’m really afraid of, it’s FALLING!” This fear of falling could have been anchored during a fall as a child, but now it is being transferred to any activity that takes us off the ground. Use this list as a starter; begin with whichever belief resonates most strongly with you.
· I’m afraid of flying
· I’m afraid of crashing
· I’m afraid of heights
· I’m afraid of falling
· I’m afraid of dying
· I’m afraid the plane will break
· I’m afraid of being off the ground
· I’m afraid of being out of control
· I’m afraid of being hurt
· I’m afraid of being in pain
· I’m afraid of being hijacked
· I’m afraid of airplanes
· I’m afraid of being in a plane crash
Don’t hesitate to add to this list; this is just a starter list to get you going. Of course, your fear may be based on one simple statement: “I’m afraid of falling out of the sky.” If so, you might find that EFT completely eliminates your fear forever in only a few minutes. On the other hand, you may be burdened with all the fears I listed above – and then some. In that case, you may need to work with EFT for a while, or even find a professional practitioner to help you zero-in on the exact beliefs that are holding you back. In either case, EFT will help if you apply it and use it until you are no longer afraid. Have fun and expect miracles. In one way or another, your life is about to change for the better!
